Clarence V. Boyer House: 1138 East 22nd

The Boyer House was built in 1927 for $9,000. It is a replica of the Governor’s Mansion in Williamsburg, Virginia and is a great example of the stately Georgian Colonial Revival style. It is two and one-half stories tall, and built of brink. It was designed by George York, who was a designer but not a licensed architect. the symmetry of the house is reinforced by the window groupings, the steeply pitched roof and the tall chimney/stacks on the east and west facade.

The house was built for Dr. C.V. Boyer, head of the UO English Department since 1925. Later when appointed President of the University in 1934, Boyer moved into the Presidents Mansion in Fairmont.
