Designed by John Hunzicker for Dr. Alvin Sether who lived here with his family until 1938. Dr. Sether, a surgeon, with Dr. Wm. H. Dale, established the Dale Sether clinic.
This house is virtually intact and is an excellent example of the Spanish Colonial/Mediterranean Style. This residence had a duplicate built in Roseburg for Dr. Sether, but that home has since burned down. It is said that this house was in competition with the Boyer House at 1138 East 22nd street to be the grandest house in Eugene as they were constructed at the same time.
Outstanding decorative features include portico/balustrade, window arches, boxed evers, and a second-story porch. An interesting feature is the lattice fence along 21st street which encloses the backyard.
