Planning for the renovation of University Park is underway! An initial survey requesting community input will be available March 27th online for three weeks. If you wish to be on an interested parties list for the project, there is a sign up feature on the top right of the webpage.
The password access will be turned off to encourage input from neighbors within an approximately one-half mile radius from the park.
The survey is the first step in the park design and outreach process. The City expects to have a concept plan completed by the fall and would break ground in summer 2024.
After reviewing the initial survey results, Parks Planning staff will develop two or three design concepts based on community priorities. Those concepts will be available for public comment via an online survey and a neighborhood meeting in June.
Community input is a critical part of balancing priorities with costs. The City has allocated $1 million for this renovation, which includes public outreach, design work, permits and construction. Additionally, SUNA collected $30,000 from the sale of parking permits during the World Games—all of which will go to park furnishings.
The SUNA board met in February with City Project Manager Mark Kosmos to discuss the public process and we encourage neighbors to take an active role in this planning.
Begin thinking about your priorities for its use and renovation goals…. Playground? Basketball court? A covered shelter? Open fields?
We may not be able to do everything we’d like—but your opinion will matter.
