In what may have been the world’s shortest public meeting tonight, the Planning Commission unanimously supported the Council’s proposal to waive on-site parking requirements at Edison. They also supported a requirement that 4J create a Transportation Demand Management plan to encourage staff and families to walk, bike, carpool, and ride the bus to/from Edison.
What’s Next?
The next step for the parking code amendment is a City Council public hearing on May 29, followed by a Council decision on June 11. Please put these dates on your calendar. Let’s see this one through to the end!
4J Bond Timeline
At the Forums in March, the District presented this schedule for bond milestones:
- By Summer 2018: Board decision about ballot measure (June 2018 filing deadline)
- Summer and Fall 2018: Citizen bond campaign
- Sept 7: Voter pamphlet deadline
- November 2018: Bond measure on elections ballot
We can safely assume that “citizen bond campaign” is where we come in. No information yet on that, but stay tuned.
Key SENSe Messages
- SENSe advocates for the continuing operation by 4J of a neighborhood elementary school at the Edison Elementary school site.
- SENSe advocates for rehabilitation or renovation in a manner that retains portions or features of the original 1926 building, while still enabling the expansion of the school to accommodate 450 students and meet current safety standards and best practices for educational facilities. We acknowledge the need to alter or add to the building to meet continuing or changing uses while retaining the property’s historic character.
