Twice since 2011, neighborhood residents have been successful in obtaining a City of Eugene Matching Grant in the sum of $4,000, with the UO matching that amount. The first phase installed eight decorative STOP/Street Sign Posts along Alder from 19th to 24th avenues. The just completed second phase installed five additional decorative post at intersections along 19th in-between Alder and Agate, and two posts along 24th.
This project began to address the safety issue of frequent illegal STOP/Street Signs removals which occur in throughout the neighborhood late at night and in the early morning hours. The decorative posts have proved an effective deterrent to unwarranted removal. While the function of the posts have proved their value, their attractive stately design have lent the entire neighborhood a quality of quiet respect.
If you enjoy the decorative posts and would like to help continue to integrate more into the streets and Avenues of the SUN, please contact the SUNA Board. Our ultimate goal is to make every intersection safe with a solid post. We can make this happen with future grants, and donations from individuals and neighborhood businesses. With a cost of $1000 per post you or your business can sponsor a post near your home or several down you street. Your gift posts will endure to make the neighborhood safer and add to the legacy or our historic district.
